Late December through Valentine’s Day is the busiest time of the year for dating apps and sites, according to Match. It’s sometimes called “cuffing season” — a nod to the idea that people want to find a serious relationship during the cold months. According to a Pew study conducted in , its most recent look at online dating, 59 percent of American adults say going online is a good way meet people — a 15 percent increase from a decade ago. In fact, in , 15 percent of American adults used a dating app or website — a number that has likely increased in the years since the study.

Clearly, Americans’ attitudes have changed about online dating. But how has online dating changed the connections we make? To find out, Morning Edition asked two online daters who also spend their days thinking about online dating: Megan Murray, a senior content strategist for Zoosk, an online dating site and mobile app, and Skyler Wang, a Ph.

Wang also taught an undergraduate course at the University of British Columbia called What Makes Us Click, about online dating and he gave NPR permission to use his course title for Morning Edition’s series on online dating. What was once taboo and unusual is so commonplace that for some, it’s strange to meet a date in person before making any online connection. Wang, who identifies as gay, says before he and his friends go out to a bar, his friends go on dating apps Tinder and Grindr to meet people at the bars where they’re headed.

And as Americans try new ways to connect, the norms of dating are evolving.

The comedy is usually meant to make the viewer feel good, projecting the foibles of characters onto the screen for the audience to use as scapegoat for the ridiculousness of life. Always a hugely popular genre, there are many types of screen comedy: Strangelove , the list goes on. Many comedy films written or starring comics with a sketch comedy background will use improvisation to produce humorous dialogue, as in This is Spinal Tap and The Year-Old Virgin.

These guys are all smart and really funny! But as far as dating profiles go…. A mix of seriousness added in would make these profiles perfect! Very youthful profiles because, well, these men are young. These guys have revealed very little about who they are, in a sense. I bet they would be worth meeting!

I’ve been using one of the major dating sites, OkCupid, on and off for about five years now. While it has its perks, being a woman on a dating site means immersing yourself in a disgusting cesspool of exposed nerves, unfiltered testosterone, and daily propositions to engage in sex acts so horrifying, I hadn’t even heard of them before, and I’m from the Internet. I got the feeling that a lot of men on that site would message literally any woman who had a profile, but the optimist in me wanted to believe that there was a limit.

Maybe there was a woman so awful, so toxic, so irredeemably unlikeable that no one would message her, or if they did, at least they would realize they never, ever wanted to meet her. So I made the OkCupid profile of the Worst Woman on Earth, hoping to prove that there exists an online dating profile so loathsome that no man would message it. Continue Reading Below I did not accomplish my goal.

Some of you have probably been through this yourselves. Over the years, I jumped from one dating site to another: You name it, I tried it. Last year, I grew more desperate and decided to try my luck on Our Time…when I noticed that there were several 40ish range profiles out there. I guess I was hoping there were some mature gentlemen out there who would appreciate a lady like me?

But once you find a subject, try not to approach it in an obvious way.. For example, if you’re writing a sketch about hairdressers, don’t set it in a hairdressing salon, set it half way up Mount Everest! You may have seen a sketch like this in Monty Python Working Backwards Sketches really should have a strong finish, so always work backwards. Here’s how to do it: Think of the punchline first.

If you can’t think of one after ten minutes there probably isn’t a good one there. If that happens, throw the whole idea into the bin and move onto your next sketch title.

We hear from our friend Shana, who’s so sick and tired of the D. Someone’s sliding into Anna’s DMs. Under the Beltway talks with Jake and Rob, the D.

It has a lot in common with Neil Simon comedies about growing older, staying relevant in a changing world, surviving a broken relationship and coping with friends and family. The play seeks to be edgy, modern and dangerous, but its debt to old-fashioned relationship comedies is clear. A divorced woman in Iowa named Sharon has a spacious house and no one to share it with, so she advertises for a roommate.

In comes Robyn, a hard-bitten New Yorker hiding a few secrets and perhaps just hiding out. She smokes cigarettes on the sly. Others are more alarming, to Sharon at least: She even grows it. TheaterWorks has a skewed view of love. Silverman sticks Robyn and Sharon in a series of awkward, presumably amusing situations.

Robyn develops a stronger conscience, realizing that her small-level criminal schemes have consequences. A lot of the dialogue seems set up for obvious punchlines or clunky plot twists. Sharon, for instance, seems clueless about New York City, then later reveals that she has a son living in Park Slope. In program notes, Silverman states that this was an impetus for her writing the play: That production had the same director Mike Donahue and one of the same actors Tasha Lawrence as this one.

These films are designed to entertain the audience through amusement, and most often work by exaggerating characteristics of real life for humorous effect. One of the oldest genres in film, some of the very first silent movies were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without sound. By the s, the television industry had become a serious competition for the movie industry.

The s saw an increasing number of broad, star-packed comedies. One of the major developments of the s was the re-emergence of the romantic comedy film.

View Current Shows So I went here for an improv show with my mom and sister while visiting Vancouver and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The cast had us laughing in tears and were super entertaining. I like that the space is fairly small so you feel like you’re a part of the action even from the back. For those people scared of being pulled on stage, they will only take you if you volunteer yourself, so your friends cannot volunteer your name.

Good drinks, great time. So glad we stopped by! Beyond that, prepare for a great laugh and audience participation!
